The Story of the Hare in the Moon signed print by Katie Green
Signed print by Suffolk artist and weaver Katie Green
Many people around the world see a Hare rather than a man in the moon and this comes from an ancient story where a Monkey, Fox and Hare help a Magical man by finding him food. The Monkey and Fox both go into the wilderness to find the magical man something to eat. After he has eaten the food they bring back he says he is still hungry but the Hare states that he is unable to climb trees for fruit as the Monkey did or bring meat to him as the Fox had so he offered his own body to the magical man in order that he be satiated. The Magical man builds a fire so that the Hare can leap into the flames and offer his flesh as food but just before the Hare meets the flames, the magical man saves the Hare and holds him up to the Moon. The Hares image stayed there forever to show everyone on Earth the Hares act of kindness and unselfishness.
The original piece is Watercolour, collage, pen and pencil work and Gold and Silver leaf on paper and the signed print is 30x30cm in a 40x40cm white mount.
