The Three Hares print by Katie Green
Signed print by Suffolk artist and weaver Katie Green
The image of the three Hares is first known to appear in cave temples in China c 6th to 7th century it was thought to be a hieroglyph of ‘to be’ and also a symbol of peace and Tranquility. It is an optical illusion where each hare has two ears yet there are only three ears in the image.
The image was transported to the rest of the world via merchants travelling the silk Road and has been widely used for many diverse cultures and many varied reasons ever since. One of the reasons I love this imagery so much is that although many people will claim the symbol as their own, no one actually knows why it was ever painted in the first place.
The original piece is Watercolour, collage, pen and pencil work and Gold and Silver leaf on paper and the signed print is 30x30cm in a 40x40cm white mount.
